Grades 5 and 6
To be considered for admission to Grades 5 or 6 for the 2011-2012 school year, the following steps must be completed between September 1, 2010 and January 21, 2011. Note: 5th Grade applicants will not be able to complete their online applications until after October 1.Submit the online application via Visitation's SSAT form after September 1. Note that you must first create an account with SSAT (if you have not already done so) before logging in to the application. Do not forget to also print and complete Visitation's supplement, which is required. If you require a paper copy of the application, contact the Admission Office at (314) 625-9292.
Then, pay the application fee of $75. Payment must be made online at the time of application directly to SSAT.
Print a copy of the academic record form (accessible from within the online application) and forward it to your current school's office. Your school will need to send a transcript - complete with three years of report cards and three years of standardized testing - directly to SSAT at the following address: SSAT Application Processing, CN 5339, Princeton, NJ 08543.
Please note that Visitation's three-year requirement differs from the instructions that appear on the standard academic record form. Each applicant is strongly encouraged to verify that her current school is submitting the proper information.
Print copies of only the math and English teacher recommendation forms (the principal/head/counselor recommendation form is not required) and forward them to the applicant's math and English teachers. The forms are confidential and should be returned by the teachers directly to SSAT at the following address: SSAT Application Processing, CN 5339, Princeton, NJ 08543.
Note that the "Student Mathematical Background" section of the math form applies only to applicants for grades 9 - 12.
Schedule a student visit. Applicants will visit during a school day until 2:15 p.m. Call (314) 625-9292 to schedule. Applicants to Grade 5 must schedule their visit at least one week in advance. Failure to do so will require the student to return at a later date to take the SSAT entrance exam for Grade 5.
Schedule a parent conference. Parents are encouraged to schedule a conference for the same day as their student's visit. Call (314) 625-9292 to schedule.
Sit for an entrance evaluation. Entrance evaluation requirements vary by grade level:
- Grade 5: Applicants will sit for the Secondary Schools Admission Test (SSAT) Grade 5 entrance exam on the day of their visit and must bring a check in the amount of $65 (made payable to SSAT). Visits must be scheduled at least one week in advance.
- Grade 6: Applicants must sit for the Secondary Schools Admission Test (SSAT) on one of the nationally administered test dates. Register online at www.ssat.org. Please choose the date and test center that is most convenient to the applicant's chedule, bearing in mind that applications must be completed by January 21. Use Visitation's school code (7975) when registering to ensure that your results are sent to the Academy.
