    • "A" Day
    • Attention all current Ambassadors! We invite you to attend a Banquet in your honor on Friday, March 12 in the Theater. This will be held during Advisory – please arrive in the theater as close to 10am as possible. Refreshments will be provided. See Mrs. Giljum with any questions and/or concerns.
    • Volunteers are needed for this year’s hosting of a Special Olympics’ Bocce Tournament on Easter Monday, April 5. Viz-Priory will host this event at the Italia-America Bocce Club located in the St. Louis “Hill” neighborhood. CLC is helping to organize this event. Twenty Viz students are needed for the bocce tournament games. Also, needed are 3-5 Viz students to serve as coordinators during the running of the games. If interested, please see Mr. Mohan for a permission slip and for further information. Thank you!
    • Ambassador Applications are available now! Any student (currently in Grades 7-11) interested in applying/interviewing for a position in the Ambassador Program for next year, please stop by the Admission Office to pick up an application. Applications are due to the Admission Office by Wednesday, March 24 at 3pm (day before Spring/Easter Break). Please keep in mind that limited spots are available for the 2010 – 2011 school year. If you are currently an Ambassador, please note that you do not need to re-apply however, you will soon receive (on your lockers) an invitation to recommit for next year. Please see Mrs. Giljum with any questions and/or concerns.
    • The deadline for Vizions, Creative Writing Contest and Art Contest submissions is this Friday, March 12. Submissions for the Creative Writing Contest and Art Contest must be original work; both have cash prizes. For recognition for school-related art work, drop submissions in the “Art submissions” folder. For more information check out the bulletin board by the café or e-mail aroth or jgoddard. If you have an interest in the Vizions layout, please e-mail aroth or jgoddard.

    Counseling Corner


    TO: ALL STUDENTS




    Wings of Hope sponsors an Explorer Program for careers in aviation for students 14-21 at the Wings of Hope headquarters in Chesterfield just west of Spirit of St. Louis Airport. This is a year round program that meets once a week, every other week, after school. The next session begins thisThursday, March 11. Interested students should RSVP to Phil Dixon at phil.dixon@faa.gov. There is a $15 registration fee due at the first meeting.     TO: JUNIORS



    Applications are available online for the STARS Program at UM-St. Louis. This program offers students entering their junior or senior years a rare opportunity to work within a lab research setting with top scientists at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, SLU, St. Louis Coll. of Pharmacy, Washington University and UM-St. Louis. The program is from 6/7-7/19. Tuition will be at least $2000. Applications are due 3/26. To learn more and to apply visit: www.umsl.edu/~sep/programs/stars.html.



    Indiana University Kelley School of Business offers the Young Women’s Institute for juniors interested in business. Institute session dates are: session A – 7/11-7/16 and session B – 7/18-7/23. The institute is fully funded – free for attendees (you have to get yourself to and from Indiana University). Applications are due by March 30 and are available at www.kelley.iu.edu/ugrad/precollege/ywi.cfm.



    The Better Business Bureau serving Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois will be presenting Students of Ethics awards to three high school juniors. These recipients will receive a $2500 award. Qualifying students will have demonstrated involvement in community service, leadership, awards and academics. There is an essay required about the importance of ethics and how an ethical dilemma was handled. Applications are available from Mrs. O’Donnell and are due by May 14.

    

TO: SENIORS



    The Ladies Auxiliary of St. Norbert Knights of Columbus will award a $500 scholarship to a qualifying senior. See Mrs. O’Donnell for an application. The deadline is April 1.



    Applications for the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship are available now in the College Center. This is a very competitive scholarship with awards up to $1500/year for 4 years. Completed applications (and 7th semester transcripts) are due before April 15, 2010.

    Viz Athletics

    • Registration for next year – FALL SPORTS is now taking place. Registration forms for soccer, volleyball and field hockey are available outside the PE office and the Athletic Office. Registration deadline is Wed., March 17. Please be sure to take home the information letter that is with the sports forms. There is some important information in the letter that you and your parents will want to know. If you have any questions please see Ms. Studnicki.

    • Did you know that we have many audio books in the library—including travelogues, novels, history, and biography? If you have a long drive to school, are planning a road trip or just like to listen, check out an audio book from the collection on the racks.

    • Mrs. Press is in need of volunteers to help with the Alumnae Easter Egg Hunt. Volunteers are needed the day of the event (Sunday, March 21) as well as volunteers to help stuffing Easter eggs on March 11, 12 and 13. If you are interested in being the official Easter Bunny on Sun., March 21 from 12:00-3:30 p.m. please contact Mrs. Press.

Well, then, please join Viz’s film club for a screening of Henry King’s The Gunfighter (1950), starring the legendary Gregory Peck as a killer whose appetite for bloodletting has waned. The movie will begin at 7:00 p.m. this Sunday, March 14, in our own little theater. (Please enter by the doors nearest the Brent room.)

    • NEEDED – Tennis Assistants for the Viz K – 8 Tennis Program: Any High School students (Gr. 9 – 11) who are interested in helping with the Viz Lower School Tennis program please see Ms. Studnicki.  We are looking for girls who have some tennis experience and are good with kids!  The dates are Mondays, April 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10 and 17 from 3:05 – 5:00 and/or  Wednesdays, April 7, 14, 21, 28, May 5 and 12 from 3:05 – 5:00.  You may use these hours as “in-school” service hours, and this will be great experience for you and look good on your college resume.  The grade school girls look up to you and would love to have you helping coach/teach them how to play tennis. Please see Ms. Studnicki, or e-mail her at lstudnicki@visitationacademy.org.

      If you would like to receive information about the People to People leadership program summit, see your counselor to be nominated.  Visit their website at:  www.peopletopeople.com/leadership to learn more about this program.

      TO: 8th GRADERS
      Applications are available for the 2010 Rachel McManemy Memorial Scholarship. A $1000 award will be given to an 8th grader who plans to attend private high school next year.  The scholarship is renewable throughout high school.  This scholarship is based on merit (academics and involvement in extracurricular activities).  Financial need is also a consideration.  Please see Mrs. Reddy if you would like to apply.  The postmark deadline is 3/20/2010.

      TO:  FRESHMEN
      The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold the Leadership in Practice 3-day statewide leadership development workshop July 7-9.  If you would like to apply for this workshop (which will be held at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Missouri) please see Mrs. O’Donnell.  There is a limit to the number of students they will accept and there is a scholarship available to cover the cost to attend, so if you are interested—apply as soon as possible.
