At Visitation Academy, the opportunity to work on robotics skills in not just an after-school activity; Visitation is proud to be the area’s only all-girls school incorporating robotics into our curriculum.
Girls in grades 1 through 5 work with robotics in a project-based learning environment that teaches the use of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts. The robotics program also allows the opportunity for differentiated instruction; students are able to advance to more complicated components and design as they master other components and concepts along the way. The program enhances student understanding of major physical science concepts and extends that knowledge to use and application in problem solving, programming, and engineering design.
Students in grades 1 through 4 work with WeDo Robotics as a part of the simple machines unit of their Science curriculum. As they progress through the unit, they advance to working with motorized mechanisms.
In the 5th grade, students work with Lego Mindstorms Education NXT Robots. Students use these robots to model real-life mechanisms, and use creativity, logic and problem-solving to meet challenges, all while using and learning STEM concepts.
