Beyond the Classroom

Well-Rounded Programs, Well-Rounded Students

Visitation provides a supportive, faith-based, all-girl environment, where students are free to express opinions, ask questions, excel in academics and athletics, develop talents in the arts, and become leaders. We truly believe that each student who enrolls at Viz has her own special set of talents and gifts, and it is our job as educators to nurture those talents and gifts. Children gain a well-rounded foundation for future success and build an inner strength that will last a lifetime.

At Viz, girls are encouraged to grow spiritually and personally as well as academically. In addition to a challenging and innovative curriculum, students will blossom and thrive as they explore all the opportunities Viz has to offer.

Service to the community is an invaluable learning experience for students. The writings of the Founders of the Visitation Order, St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal, encourage us to use our God-given gifts to make the world a better place. Because of our desire to “Live Jesus” and our belief that serving others is key to the growth and development of young Christian girls, Lower School students participate in several community service projects, both on and off campus, throughout the school year. This includes field trips specifically devoted to service at a local food bank in Grades 1-5.
  • Specials

Viz’s specials curriculum is a perfect complement to its academic counterpart, offering students a combination of music, modern language, art, and physical education.
    • Music – In addition to vocal performance, girls learn music theory, play instruments, and compose their own songs using iPads. Students also sample music from different genres and artists, gaining an appreciation for the diversity in music.
    • Modern Language – Both French and Spanish are taught beginning in first grade. Students develop a worldview and an appreciation of cultural diversity at an early age and are fully prepared for advanced language study in our Middle and Upper Schools.
    • Art – In our dedicated art room, students delve into a variety of media and learn the fundamentals of art, to form their own creations. Art appreciation is learned by studying the lives and works of famous artists.
    • Physical Education – Strong bodies support strong minds. The goal of this program is to educate, enhance, and individualize students’ health and wellness and prepare them to continue healthy practices throughout their life.
  • Spirituality

An enriching spiritual life is an integral part of a Visitation education. The school’s mission mirrors Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth, her acceptance of Jesus in her own life, and her commitment to carry Him to others. Students strive to “Live Jesus” by reflecting Christ’s gentle strength in their daily interactions. The class day begins in prayer with the words of St. Francis, “Let us place ourselves in the presence of God.” Students deepen their faith and reflect on their relationships with themselves, their family and friends, and their personal relationship with God through participation in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Masses, prayer services, retreats, and sacramental milestones.
Visitation Academy is an independent, private Catholic school offering a coeducational Montessori preschool and Kindergarten program, the area's only all-girl elementary program for Grades 1-5, and an all-girl middle school and all-girl high school.
