Performing Arts

Through participation in the arts, each student is encouraged to develop her unique gifts.

At the first annual St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards, Viz received 9 nominations, the most out of all participating schools, for the 2016 fall musical Nunsense. The Thespians took home 3 awards: Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Direction, and Outstanding Costume Design. Congrats to all of our talented Vivettes!

The Christmas Concert and Spring Concert highlight the work of school choirs, soloists, dancers and handbell ensembles. The concerts often feature performances highlighting girls’ interests outside of school too, be it Irish dance or harp solos.
Visitation students take to the stage throughout the year in the many theatrical performances.

Fall Musical

Middle and Upper School students may audition for the musical. On stage and backstage opportunities allow all different types of students to be involved. Students learn to use power tools for set construction; they help with costume design, lighting, props, make-up, hair and publicity. Recent Fall Musicals have included Little Women, Nunsense, and The Addams Family Musical.

Student-Directed One Acts

Students also have the opportunity to direct their own one act in the fall. It is a great leadership experience for upperclassmen, and a chance for girls from different grades to connect with one another.

Winter Play

This production explores comedy, drama, and classical and contemporary non-musical scripts. Auditions for this production are open to Grades 9-12. Full backstage crews are used for this show as well. Recent Winter Plays have included The Matchmaker, Radium Girls, and Sylvia.
