Our Spirituality

Educating the Mind and Heart

Visitation Academy is rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and strengthened by inclusive Salesian, Visitation values inspired by the founders of the Visitation Order, St. Jane de Chantal and St. Francis de Sales, whose love and wisdom form the foundation of our teachings.

The writings of these saints unite a love of truth with the pursuit of knowledge and the dedication of each individual’s God-given gifts to make the world a better place. Salesian, Visitation spirituality emphasizes the “Little Virtues” of kindness, gentleness, humility, and thoughtful concern for others. It is a practical spirituality that calls us to discover the presence of God in our lives in the present moment. In all that we do, the words of St. Francis are repeated, “Let us place ourselves in the presence of God.”

Fostering a strong spiritual life is an important part of creating a well-rounded experience for all of our students, from the Montessori through the Upper School. Our mission mirrors Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth: her acceptance of Jesus in her own life and her commitment to carry Him to others. In all our interactions, we seek to reflect the life of Jesus, “Living Jesus” as St. Jane and St. Francis instructed.

It is through the Sisters' forward vision and thoughtful guidance that Viz has thrived for 187 years, and they have secured the future of Viz for generations to come through the Association of Christian Faithful (ACF) and the Visitation Associates Community.

Visit the ACF website to learn more about the very important role these organizations play within the Viz community and how they ensure that the Sister’s spirit of Living Jesus continues for years to come.
